Birt rink, and PEI natives Gallant, Casey in the Stu Sells Toronto Tankard WCT event this weekend

The 2013 StuSells Toronto Tankard is being held October 11 to 14 at the High Park Club in Toronto, Ontario as part of the 2013–14 World Curling Tour. The 24 team men’s division will play a triple-knockout format, while the 15 team women’s event be a round-robin. The purse for the men’s event will be $45,000, of which the winner will receive $15,000, while the purse for the women’s event will be $15,000, of which the winner will take home $5,000. Jeff Stoughton of Winnipeg is the defending men’s champ, while Mary Anne Arsenault from Halifax won the women’s event last year. Both teams are back this year.

PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink is among the teams on the women’s side, while the men’s side includes the Brad Gushue foursome from St. John’s, with two PEI natives on board – Brett Gallant and Adam Casey. Besides Birt and Gushue,  the Heather Smith-Dacey foursome out of Halifax are the only other Atlantic Canada team entered.

The finals are Monday at 5 pm Atlantic.
